HONEY BAKED HAM-BURGERS
Summer is upon us and what better way to kick it off than firing up the grill? Next question: what to cook? Is your go-to burgers? Mix it up this weekend by trying these Honey Baked Ham-Burgers. We've always been of the opinion that something called a hamburger should probably have at least a little ham in it. We tried them out and we were right! Everything is, in fact, better with ham.
Honey Baked Ham
Garlic Clove, Minced
Capers, Chopped (Optional, But Nice)
Fresh Thyme, Chopped
Ice Berg Lettuce, Shredded
Gruyere Cheese, Slices
Let's begin by warming the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add onions. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook onions until golden brown, stirring occasionally.
While onions are caramelizing, add ham to food processor. Pulse until ham is finely ground. If you do not have a food processor. finely chop ham with a knife.
In a large mixing bowl, combine ground pork, egg yolk, garlic, pepper, capers, and ground ham. Using your hands or a spatula, gently combine.
Once combined, separate the mixture into 6 equal sized portions. Gently mold each portion into a patty shape, with a slight indentation in the middle of the patty.
Cook ham-burger patties 3-5 minutes to a side on a hot grill or until desired internal temperature is reached. Finish by melting the gruyere cheese on each patty.
Serve ham-burgers on toasted buns with iceberg lettuce, caramelized onions and your choice of condiments.
